Artist Statement:
Using both stoneware and porcelain, Diane begins each piece by throwing a basic cylinder on the wheel then alters the piece with a pinch, a cut or an addition of clay until the character emerges.
“My figures seem to emerge, almost as if they spring out of the clay on their own,” says Diane, “The figures have a conversation with themselves and with the viewer. Grouped together, they look like a busy street corner with some actively engaged in the dialog while others are lost on the edge in their own world.“
